Session 8: Nov.4th - Dec. 18th (6 weeks)
Serenity’s teaching style is hands on and personal. She keeps structured instruction to a minimum and instead prefers to work one and one with students. This allows her to tailor her approach to individual learning styles. She especially loves teaching the basics to beginners and has some tricks for centering and throwing that help students catch on quickly. All curriculum in this course includes demos and hands on assistance with all of the below:
How to throw including a bonus comprehensive, printable tutorial
How and when to trim
Multiple ways to make handles and how to attach them
Overview of surface design methods
Basics of glazing including multiple methods for applying glaze
Studio policies and basic best practices for working with clay
Basic overview of clay bodies and stages of the pottery process
Questions and exploration outside of the standard course curriculum are always welcome. If you see something you’d like to try, just bring an image and Serenity will do her best to walk you through how to achieve it including demos and process steps.
You can expect class to start with a 20-30 minute demo for the first 4 weeks. The rest of the class is open studio time and Serenity is available to offer hands on assistance or requested demos as needed..
Price includes $50 materials fee to cover the cost of clay, glaze and firing services. In order to reduce our studio's environmental impact, all courses include 15 lbs of reclaim clay and one flat rate firing and glaze fee. All other clay bodies are still available for purchase in studio.
Adult students must have their own tools. Starter tool kits can be purchased on the first day of class at the studio for $25/kit (plus tax).
