Luster Workshop with Abigail Akers
October 13th, 10am-1pm at Mill Valley Pottery Studio
In this two hour workshop, you will learn luster application techniques that will give your pottery a shimmering finish! After the workshop is over, we will load your pieces into the kiln for a overnight low fire. They should be ready for pick up later that week. We will let you know when all of the luster pieces have been placed on the finished shelf.
You will need to bring your own glaze fired pottery.
MVPS will provide Bright Gold luster, essence, and paint brushes, but you are welcome to bring your own brushes.
What is luster? Its liquid gold, silver, or another precious metal that can be applied to already finished ceramic surfaces (so already glaze fired) After painting a piece with luster it is fired a 3rd time to a very low temp (cone 018).
Luster is great on functional work but is not dishwasher friendly or microwave safe. It's really nice on sculptural work and decorative items. So start thinking about what you want to put luster on and give it a try!
$50 for the 3 hour workshop. Fee includes firing 5 pieces.
$10 per additional piece of pottery
